“See you later, Cheerio Waterbus” - what the heck, Kimberly? That doesn’t even rhyme! I know, I know! There are “goodbye phrases” that rhyme in English like “See you later, alligator” and “In a while, crocodile”, but did you know that other languages have similar rhyming sayings for “see ya”? If you check out this Twitter post by Adam Sharp, you’ll find foreign language equivalents including the Dutch’s “Aju paraplu” (“bye umbrella”) or Basque’s “Agur yogur” (“bye yogurt”), but the one that we’re talking about today is “Szervusz vízibusz” which is Hungarian for “cheerio waterbus”! Mike Matteson of Inkdependence thought that was cool and it would be a great name for his ink collaboration with Hungarian ink maker, Máté Bikfalvi of Pennonia Inks. She can be found on Instagram because there really are many, many hobbies!.) If parents knew the truth on how full time treats their employees, I feel strongly that they would not support this camp in the slightest.( Kimberly (she/her) took the express train down the fountain pen/stationery rabbit hole and doesn't want to be rescued. As an adult person whose full time job is to treat others with kindness and allow them a space to be themselves, how can you not understand that the values that Cheerio has stated should also apply to employees? I am disgusted by the lack of empathy and inclusivity. They choose employees based on who will make them look the best. I ask full time to recognize that they are lucky to have so many potential employees who would do anything to make camp a safe environment. Many of my fellow coworkers have cried and had their hearts broken when finding out that as a staff member, Cheerio is no longer a safe place or second home. They have no idea what they are doing, and are hurting people in the process. There is an absence of transparency and communication only coming from the new camp directors. They choose favorites and do not put such favorites under the same conditions as the rest of the staff. Every day at camp feels like a competition in which you have to prove you are worthy to work at this summer camp. ![]() They have absolutely no respect or trust with the counselors or support staff. With the term christian in the YMCA acronym, you would think that these adult administration leaders would understand the words forgiveness and unconditional love. It is an unfair and unjust work environment. At this rate, camp will be underemployed for the rest of its time.Ĭheerio is not a safe place for employees unless nepotism is involved. Full time doesn’t care about you at all unless you can gossip with them, kiss up to them, or are a friend of a friend. Kitchen staff is treated like they’re subhuman. I loved camp for many years but feel absolutely disgusted with the disrespect that they show their staff year after year, this past year being the worst I’ve seen. Then, tell you that you don’t deserve to be there at the end of the summer after they’ve used you in every possible way. They will work you until you’re physically and mentally exhausted, sick every single week, and burnt out. They treat the medical staff horribly, and do not give any support to counselors that are struggling in their cabins or with their co counselors. One full time member specifically says that she is just blunt and honest, but tends to use that as an excuse to be a bully. Full time’s favorite staff members are allowed to break the rules endlessly while others are subject to cruel criticisms almost daily. All the staff is cliquey and there is no accountability for staff being mean to each other. ![]() ![]() The supposed leaders of the camp are full time gossipers. If full time staff doesn’t like you or you’re not the favorite, you’ll be miserable.
